Climatic conditions

Winter 2016 was exceptionally mild and very rainy. The mild temperatures and soaked soils provoked early and balanced budburst. A cold, rainy spring slowed down growth of the already well-advanced vines. On the clay soils of Grand Renom, plant growth was running a little late. While on the clay-limestone soils, vine growth was regular and homogeneous. The weather at time of flowering was exceptional, giving perfect fertilisation of flowers, free from shatter or shot berries.

A hot, dry summer contributed to maintaining slight water stress. Grapes were thus able to mature in ideal conditions. Summery temperatures and rare beneficial rains gave very concentrated grapes, with tannins of high quality at maturity.

Vintage presentation

Grand Renom clays played a buffer role during the drought of summer 2016. There were no water constraints and the Sauvignon kept its delightful freshness.

The grandeur of vintage 2016 is found in the acidity and complexity of the whites.

From the vine to the glass

In early September, harvesting began on whites of homogeneous maturity.

After slow, low pressure pressing, juices were fermented cold and on lees, for extra flesh and roundness.
