Climatic conditions

This vintage was no easy ride for the winegrower’s nerves, with some spectacular climatic extremes. After an exceptional period of rain from November to July, which was conducive to the development of vine diseases, the situation fortunately improved with a hot, sunny summer.

Vintage presentation

A fruity, spicy wine with the freshness of our clays, a supple, powerful structure and silky tannins. A complex, elegant wine with good ageing potential. A great success!

From the vine to the glass

Budburst was late and rapid, due to water-logged soils and high temperatures in April. Flowering was early and rapid. This fine momentum continued, leading to a particularly calm harvest. The low rainfall meant that all the plots could be harvested at the right stage of ripeness. The contrast between the warm days and cool nights encouraged the berries to concentrate their aromas.

Tasting

The vintage began with a historically wet spring, with thunderstorms lasting until mid-June. Then nothing. Fortunately, scattered thunderstorms at the beginning of September gave the vines a boost and the grapes reached good ripeness. An early harvest for a well-balanced, fresh vintage. Its dark red colour is intense and brilliant. Its stunningly complex nose is already well open: fresh fruit (strawberry, raspberry) mingles with violets, and is contrasted by a slight “zan” freshness. The barrel ageing has already been integrated into the nose, supporting the fruit and aromas; the typical fruitiness of the clay-limestone soil has been established. On the palate, an amplitude and an unprecedented freshness are revealed. The high tannin content is fine and silky, reflecting a fine maturity. This is a long, multi-dimensional vintage that will age well and fully express the potential of the terroir.
