Climatic conditions

Overall, winter was mild, excepting January, which was very cold. March was rainy and grey. As a result, budburst came late. The weather conditions in June were exceptional, with summery temperatures and bright sunshine. Flowering and fruit set were fast and complete. Very positive signs for a highly promising vintage.

July was also very hot and dry, producing extremely small, concentrated berries. August rains got grape ripening off to an excellent start, while limiting water stress. September was cool and dry. Maturity, free from rot, was reached slowly, with all plots harvested at their highest quality potential. Grapes were small in size and highly concentrated, with top quality tannins.

From the vine to the glass

For red grapes, plots were all tasted regularly to determine the optimal harvest date. The grapes were machine-picked from the end of September to the beginning of October, with on-board sorting to retain only the very best grapes. Each plot was vinified separately to extract full potential. During fermentation, pumping over was carried out 3 to 4 times per day to extract the best tannins.

After 3 to 4 weeks of maceration, the wine was racked and the marc pressed. Following malolactic fermentation, wines were matured in 225-litre French oak barrels for 12 months. In order not to stamp the wine’s character too heavily with woody notes, only 1/3 of new barrels were used.
